Please dress for winter weather

We have had a number of students arrive to school today without appropriate winter clothing.  With such cold temperatures, please make sure that your child leaves home in the morning with mittens, hat, winter jacket and winter boots, as well as snow pants.   For our younger students, it is also a good idea to send extra socks to ensure dry, warm feet over the course of the day.

REMINDER: When the temperature outside reaches  –20C with or without wind-chill, or when it is deemed that the play areas are unsafe due to icy conditions, students will remain inside at recess.   When temperatures hover close to -20C (-18 or -19) it is likely that students will receive a shortened recess  and therefore should always come to school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Orthodox Christmas Greeting

To all of our families  who celebrate Orthodox Christmas, we would like to wish you and your families a very happy celebration.

Inclement and Extreme cold weather

To ensure the safety of students, school bus service may be cancelled from time to time due to inclement weather, extreme temperatures and/or poor road conditions. In these cases, parents and students should develop alternate care/transportation arrangements. Since some busing schedules begin by 7:00 a.m., cancellation decisions must be made by 6:00a.m. to allow time to communicate this message to bus drivers.
Parents, students and school staff are asked to access radio and television stations after 6:00 a.m. to receive bus cancellation information:
Unless otherwise stated, schools will remain open and parents can make arrangements to transport their children to and from school even if school bus service is cancelled.  Please  pre-determine a meeting spot for the end of the day and/or a “Plan B” for when the bus is late arriving at a stop.
If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon.  Anytime your child is absent from school, it is important that you call the school to ensure their safety.
When the temperature outside reaches  –20C with or without wind-chill, or when it is deemed that the play areas are unsafe due to icy conditions, students will remain inside at recess.  It is possible that students will receive a shortened recess when temperatures are close to –20C and therefore should always come to school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Happy Holidays

Dear Families,
On behalf of the staff at Bayview Hill ES, we would like to extend our best wishes for a happy and safe holiday!  Thank you for working with us in so many ways to support your children in their learning.  It is the collaborative partnership between school and home that fosters success and achievement.
Please take time during the break to enjoy the warmth of  family and friends.  A celebration of our diversity was especially evident during our Grade 2 performance last week and as shown in their display in the front foyer of the school.  Happy Chanukah! Merry Christmas!  Happy Kwanzaa !
Wishing all of our families peace and all good things in 2015.
Carol Takagi and Jennifer Branch

Lost and Found

Items from our lost and found bins are located in the primary hallway of the school.  Through announcements, we ask students to check for any missing items and also remind teachers to  have students check as well.  At home, please remind your child(ren) to take a look for any items that may belong to them.  Typically, there are a range of items from jackets, sweatshirts, snowpants, lunchbags, boots and running shoes that are not claimed.  Items that are not claimed by the end of the day on Dec 19 are donated to charity.  Thank you.
