LATE ARRIVALS
This morning, we had 65 students arrive late. This means that they do not get to their class until closer to 9:15am as they need to be signed in at the office and results in an interruption of instructional time. Please consider leaving your home earlier in the morning to reduce congestion at the front of the school OR consider dropping your child on a side street at the back or side of the schoolyard. On extreme cold mornings like this, our students enter the building at 8:45am. Unfortunately, we cannot have them enter earlier as we don't have supervision for them. We would appreciate your cooperation in making every attempt to have your child at school prior to 9am. Thank you. Stay warm, it's a chilly one out there today.
Character Assemblies hosted by Gr 6s
On Thursday, our school had 3 assemblies to recognize students for the character trait of EMPATHY. Each month, a different grade 6 class plans, prepares and hosts all of our assemblies. Please take a look at their work in the link below. They have done a wonderful job at integrating technology and specialized apps with their messaging around our January trait of PERSEVERANCE. Specifically, don't miss clicking the individual pics on the slide "Ways to demonstrate perseverance".

Late arrivals
The past two mornings we have had more than 60 students arriving late in the morning, all between 9 and 9:15am. All students who are late, must sign in at the office which results in a late entry to their classrooms. We do understand that there are a variety of reasons for late arrivals when temperatures are extreme. We would like to remind families, that when temperatures are extreme, students may enter the building at 8:45am and will be supervised at this time. We do not have supervision prior to this time. If possible, please consider dropping off your children at 8:45am and/or dropping off students on a street that backs onto the school or at the side of the schoolyard so that we can avoid a disruption to instruction and have greater flow of traffic in front of the school. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Stay warm.
Please dress for winter weather
We have had a number of students arrive to school today without appropriate winter clothing. With such cold temperatures, please make sure that your child leaves home in the morning with mittens, hat, winter jacket and winter boots, as well as snow pants. For our younger students, it is also a good idea to send extra socks to ensure dry, warm feet over the course of the day.
REMINDER: When the temperature outside reaches –20C with or without wind-chill, or when it is deemed that the play areas are unsafe due to icy conditions, students will remain inside at recess. When temperatures hover close to -20C (-18 or -19) it is likely that students will receive a shortened recess and therefore should always come to school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Orthodox Christmas Greeting
To all of our families who celebrate Orthodox Christmas, we would like
to wish you and your families a very happy celebration.
Inclement and Extreme cold weather
To ensure the safety of students, school bus service may be cancelled from time to time due to inclement weather, extreme temperatures and/or poor road conditions. In these cases, parents and students should develop alternate care/transportation arrangements. Since some busing schedules begin by 7:00 a.m., cancellation decisions must be made by 6:00a.m. to allow time to communicate this message to bus drivers.
Parents, students and school staff are asked to access radio and television stations after 6:00 a.m. to receive bus cancellation information:
Unless otherwise stated, schools will remain open and parents can make arrangements to transport their children to and from school even if school bus service is cancelled. Please pre-determine a meeting spot for the end of the day and/or a “Plan B” for when the bus is late arriving at a stop.
If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon. Anytime your child is absent from school, it is important that you call the school to ensure their safety.
